Obituary for Simon Daniel Hamann, 55, (3/5/1970-12/3/2025) of Gold Beach, Oregon, passed away on December 3, 2025.
Born in Friedberg, Hessen, Germany, Simon came to the United States at the age of six. He attended Ukiah high school, and upon graduation immediately enlisted in the United States Army. He deployed during Operation Desert Storm serving heroically as an Airborne SAPPER in combat, earning numerous medals and awards, including the Valorous Unit Award. After his active duty, he continued his service in the National Guard, achieving the rank of SGT first class
(SFC) over a total of 13 years of dedicated military service.
Following his military career, Simon proudly served as an officer with the California Highway Patrol for more than 26 years. The last 17 of those years he worked as an accident reconstructionist with the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), an elite specialized unit where his expertise and commitment saved and protected countless lives, and provided answers for numerous families.
A quietly charitable man, Simon regularly donated to children's, veterans, and animal welfare organizations. He volunteered his time to help local veterans by providing rides, groceries, warm clothing, assistance of any type, or simply companionship and conversation.
Simon leaves behind his wife Samantha, whom he always called the love of his life. Although they had no children of their own, Simon and Samantha raised four beloved dachshunds: Jaeger, Birgitte, Schwarz, and Mathilda.
Simon is also survived by his mother Ilona; his brother, Danny, and sister-in-law Rachel, and their four children; his stepfather Dennis; his step sister's Tracey and Olivia; his stepbrother Jeremey; and his brother-in-law, Travis. In addition to these family members, Simon leaves behind an extended military and law-enforcement family that was built over decades of service to the United States of America and the State of California.
In retirement, Simon and Samantha fulfilled their dream of living in a home with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean in Gold Beach, where he spent countless peaceful hours, watching the waves, listening to the ocean, and savoring his life well- lived.
A funeral with full military and law-enforcement honors will be held at a date and time yet to be determined, at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo (Redding), California. In lieu of flowers, donations to the
Wounded Warrior Project, a police, benevolent fund of your choice, or any veteran or animal welfare organization and Simon's memory would be greatly appreciated.
Until we meet again Simon- your service is over. We will take it from here.
