Simpson Allen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 20, 2026.
Simpson Morrette Allen, age 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 17, 2026, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Born on June 24, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Simpson spent his early years growing up in Greenville, Mississippi. In the last few decades of his life, he made his home in Tennessee-a place he deeply loved, especially the peace and beauty of country living.
Simpson proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. A decorated Vietnam War veteran, he bravely completed two combat tours of service. His courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty reflected the strength of character he carried throughout his life.
A gifted and passionate musician, Simpson was an exceptionally talented songwriter, singer, guitarist, and performer. Music was not just a skill but a calling-one that brought joy to countless people. He also loved hunting and fishing, finding solace and joy in God's creation. Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, Simpson could light up any room. He was also an amazing cook, a loyal friend, and above all, a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His grandchildren and many others called him Bigdaddy, a nickname of endearment.
Simpson's faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. He walked with the Lord, trusted in His promises, and lived with the assurance that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. His life stands as a testimony to grace, perseverance, and unwavering faith.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Allen; his mother, Ruby Kennedy; and his father, Arthur Lee Edward Allen.
He is survived by his children: daughters Heather Gonyo, Jenny Patton and sons Arthur Allen (Heidi Allen) and Randy Baker; his grandchildren Shelby Patton, Deborah Gonyo, Christian Patton (Makenzie Patton) Koda Allen, Nathan Gibbs, and Ruby Gibbs; and his great-grandchildren Charlie Foster, Ezra Patton, Georgia Foster, Jude Patton, and Serenity Dority.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices knowing that Simpson is now at peace, restored, and reunited with loved ones in the presence of the Lord. His legacy of faith, love, music, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
