Smith Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dorchester Funeral Home - Midway on Dec. 27, 2025.
Smith Worth Davis, age 90, of Ludowici, Georgia, entered eternal rest on December 22, 2025, at his
residence.

Smith Worth Davis was born on January 27, 1935, in Soperton, Georgia, to the late Ivory Lee Davis
and Gaudie Ford Davis. He received his formal education in Trenton, New Jersey, and was a graduate
of Hamilton High West School.

He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of
Sergeant First Class (E-7) after over 20 plus years of active military service. His distinguished military
career included completion of Drill Sergeant School in 1968 and the receipt of the Jungle Expert Ribbon
(Panama). His service exemplified leadership, discipline, and unwavering dedication to duty.

Following his military retirement, Mr. Davis was employed with PSE&G; of Hamilton Township, New
Jersey, where he continued his commitment to hard work and service.

In his leisure time, Smith Worth Davis enjoyed walking, faithfully following the New York Mets,
long-distance driving, and proudly bragging about and spending time with his grandchildren, whom he
dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivory Lee Davis and Gaudie Ford Davis, and his brothers,
Sylvester Davis and William Davis.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Sheilah (Hubert) Thom of Fredericksburg, Virginia;
Vincent (Kim) Davis of Anna, Texas; and Ernest Davis of Columbus, Georgia. He is also survived by his
sister, Lorraine Johnson of Burlington, New Jersey; his former wife, Verdelle B. Davis; and special
family members including cousins Carolyn Daniels and Valerie Boyd; great-nephews Truyett Nettles
and Conan Nettles; and great-niece Elder Teresa Johnson, along with a host of other relatives and
friends
