Services are scheduled for 2 pm Monday, October 20, at Trinity Temple Assembly of God for Socorro "Soki" P. Gonzales of Artesia, New Mexico.
Soki went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on October 16, 2025 in Lubbock, Texas.
Bobby Argo will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leo Torres, Joaquin Gonzales, Miguel Gonzales, Ethan Jorren, Gabriel Sellmer, Marcos Gonzales and Ricky Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be all other nephews.
Soki was born July 13, 1948 in Artesia, NM to Catarino R. Gonzales and Juanita Perez Gonzales. She was a lifelong resident of Artesia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Catarino "Chuco" Gonzales, Jr. and Johnny Gonzales, Frank Gonzales and a sister Betty Sellmer.
Those left to cherish her memory are brothers Mike Gonzales and wife Arcelia, and Angel Gonzales and wife Denise; sisters Toni Hernandez and husband Ben, Helen Gonzales, and Sally Jorren and husband Mike; sisters-in-law Alice Gonzales and Betty Gonzales; also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Soki was a graduate of Artesia High School 1967 and enjoyed reading, listening to Christian music, watching TV, making jewelry and in earlier years, bowling, tennis, jogging and racquetball. She retired after 43 years from Navajo Refining Co/Holly Frontier/HF Sinclair where she started as a secretary and then on to Human Resources, she always said how she enjoyed her work and everyone she worked with. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a godly influence for anyone who would come to her for advice. She had a very gentle, kind and generous heart always ready to lend a helping hand. Her patience with people and situations was admirable. She had a very calm spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. Soki's faith was strong and was a pillar of strength to her family and friends.
A poem I think that would sum up what Soki would like to say to family and friends, because she is rejoicing with Jesus in heaven and would want us to be happy for her...
I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one; I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done; I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the way of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days; I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
