Sonia Stratis Obituary
SLINGERLANDS - Sonia Stratis, 74, passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the loving care of her husband, Dean, December 31, 2025. She was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Brentwood, Long Island. She was the daughter of the late Eufracio Marquez Rios and Lydia Rivera; and was predeceased by her brother, Edgar Rios.
Sonia was a devoted wife who enjoyed keeping a beautiful home and loved cooking and caring for her family. She enjoyed fashion and shopping and found joy in simple moments. Sonia worked in the medical profession as an LPN when she relocated to the Capital District in 1993 with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Dean Stratis; and their precious dog, Alex; as well as her brother, Papo; brother-in-law, George Stratis; and his wife Tina; and their children, Justin and Diana; alongside numerous cousins and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y. 12205. All are invited to attend her memorial service at 4 p.m.
In memory of her gentle soul, contributions may be to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, N.Y. 12204 or to The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 South Manning Blvd., Albany, N.Y. 12208.
