Sonja Louise Berry Hylton, 76, of Pleasant Garden passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, November 3, 2025. She was born March 21, 1949 in Mebane, NC to Charlie Melvin Berry and Emilie Lillian Angela Rechberger Berry.
Sonja will be remembered as a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was married to the love of her life, Doug, for 54 years and raised three wonderful children. Sonja was a homemaker until her children were grown then worked as a GIS mapper for 30 years. She was a great cook who loved being “Mimi” to her family. She had an amazing green thumb, both indoors and outdoors. She loved cheering on Duke basketball and spending time with her loved ones. Sonja will be loved and missed by all who knew her.
Sonja is survived by her husband, Doug Hylton of the home; daughters, Michelle Hylton (David Houck) of Cary, Angela Parker (Reid) of New Bern, Meghan Woolard (Randy) of Washington; grandchildren, Sophia, Gabriella, Finley, Ashton, Maxwell; sister, Sue Florence of New Bern; and Leroy, her canine companion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hylton Farm shelter at 2407 Providence Church Rd, Pleasant Garden, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Sonja's memory be made to Randleman Public Library, 142 West Academy St, Randleman, NC 27317. She loved to read and visited the library often.
