Sonja Jean Davis

Sonja “Sunny” Jean Davis, 73, has passed away peacefully at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, VA on Friday, April 26, 2024. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of over 52 years, Rev. Gerald Davis; her parents, Wesley and Sylvia Dane; and her sister, Donna Lawrence. 

Sonja is survived by her children, Jon and Christi Davis of Leesburg, VA, Kristen Davis of Dinwiddie, VA, and Jesse and Rebecca Davis of Jonesborough, TN; and her grandchildren, Jonathan, Jordyn, Alivia, Mykal, Andrew, Addison and Levi.

Sonja pastored alongside her husband, Gerald at the Rock Church of Petersburg for over 30 years until pastor Gerald went to be with the Lord in 2006. After pastor Gerald died, Sonja took over as pastor for several years before retiring. 

Sonja always enjoyed painting, drawing, and playing scrabble with her friends. She loved animals and cooking, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren who know her as “Nana”. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Rock Church of Petersburg, 2301 County Drive, Petersburg, VA 23803. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA 23803.
