Sonja Sewell Obituary

Sonja Sewell will be remembered as the heart of her family and a gentle, loving presence in the lives of all who knew her. A devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother, she built her life around caring for others and creating a warm, welcoming home filled with love.

As a homemaker, Sonja had a gift for turning everyday moments into something special. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy, where her talent as a wonderful cook brought family and friends together time and again. Meals prepared by her hands were more than food-they were expressions of love.

She also possessed a beautiful gift for music. An accomplished pianist, Sonja filled her home with melodies that soothed, uplifted, and inspired. Whether playing for family gatherings or in quiet moments alone, her music reflected her grace and spirit.

Sonja was a woman of many talents. She was a gifted quilter whose creations will be treasured for generations. One of her quilts was honored by being displayed in the Library of Congress-She also found great joy in making numerous crafts and beautiful bouquets, creating not only lovely things, but lasting memories for those she loved.

Her faith was an important part of her life. She and her beloved husband, Gene, served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Throughout her life, she also faithfully served in numerous callings within her church, including the President of the stake relief Society, offering her time, compassion, and unwavering devotion to others.

Sonja is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Sewell Estay (Peter); her sons, Michael Floyd Sewell (Kimberly) and Richard Whittaker Sewell (Candace); her grandchildren, Peter Mike Estay, Scotty Estay, Lauren Langer, Andrea Estay, Tyler Sewell, Taura Martinez, Tyson Sewell, Tate Sewell, Josh Sewell, Scott Sewell, Andy Sewell, Jed Sewell, Beau Sewell, Nicholas Sewell, Aubrey Weaver, Lindsey Blanchard, and Zachary Sewell; as well as numerous great-grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of love.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Gene Sewell; her son, Steven Earl Sewell (Brenda) and her son, Jeffery Bowcutt Sewell.

Sonja's kindness, warmth, and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed, but her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured and the countless memories she created.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3rd at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Interment will be in the Driggs Cemetery.
