Herbert Clarence McCarthy, known affectionately as Sonny to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, in
Dodson Branch, Tennessee at the age of 83. Born on May 8, 1942, in Pennsylvania, Sonny grew up to be a man of many talents and an inspiration to all who knew him.
Sonny's life was one marked by a steadfast work ethic and a keen ability to fix anything he put his hands on. After earning his high school diploma, he dedicated many years to his craft as a machinist and welder, becoming a master of his trade. His passion for working with his hands didn't end at the shop; Sonny was also a gifted fixer-upper and could often be found in his garage or workshop, tinkering with automobiles or indulging in all types of carpentry. His creations and repairs were not just a testament to his skill but also to his creative and adventurous spirit.
In his leisure time, Sonny loved to feel the wind in his hair as he rode his motorcycle across scenic routes. These rides were not just a hobby but a reflection of the freedom and independence that characterized his approach to life. Sonny's spirituality was personal and profound, guiding him through life's challenges with grace and resilience.
Sonny's legacy is carried on by his loving family, who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his son: Noah McCarthy of
