Sonya Minor Cohen, 74, of 222 S. Boyce Street, Union, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, following an extended illness.
Sonya was born on January 20, 1952, to the late James “Sonny” and Hazel Harris Minor. She is survived by her cherished daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Scott Barnett, Holly and Joey Lawson, and Dana and Lee Mason. She was a devoted “Nana” to her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Barnett (Kristen), Bryce Barnett, Jordan Lawson, Drew Mason and Carlee Mason, and to her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Emerson Barnett.
She is also survived by her special niece, Olivia Cannon; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Kenny Lominack and Emily and Jeff Cannon, her special “sister,” Mary Arnold; her nieces and nephews, David Kingsmore, Lesley Kingsmore, Andy Lominack, Rhett Cannon, Peyton Cannon, and Nathan Arnold; along with several cherished great-nieces and great-nephews, Bailey Kingsmore, Bradon Kingsmore (Madi), Hannah Liner, and Gabriel, Ben and Ruby Lominack, and a great great nephew, Harrison Stamper.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her uncle, Roger Harris; her cousins Brian Gault, Jody Gault, Brenda Belue, and Sandy Wade; and was preceded in death by her cousin, the late Wanda Morrison.
Sonya was a woman of quiet humility, whose strength was found not in recognition, but in her unwavering love and devotion to her family. Above all, she loved God and faithfully trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world and the greatest joy of her life. She did not simply love them-she poured herself into them. Whether she was playing games on the floor, offering gentle guidance, caring for them in times of need, or delighting in spoiling them, she made each one feel deeply cherished. Her love was steady, generous, and unconditional, leaving behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of those she nurtured so faithfully.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Laurel Weston, a lifelong and devoted physician whose compassionate care made a difference in Sonya’s life.
