Sonya Mae Eckhoff, a vibrant and passionate individual, tragically left this world too soon on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the young age of 26. Born on March 19, 1999, in Festus, Missouri, she was the beloved daughter of Darrell and Shannon (Brown) Eckhoff. From a young age, Sonya’s bold spirit and big heart made her unforgettable. She was a remarkable person known for her boldness, strong opinions, and an unwavering determination.
Sonya was a graduate of Potosi High School, class of 2017, and also attended Mineral Area College where she proudly obtained her Associate's Degree. Throughout her school years, she was actively involved and made lasting memories that shaped her life.
Above all, Sonya’s greatest joy was being a mother to her beautiful daughter, Loki Ryals. Their bond was unbreakable — built on love, laughter, and endless “girls’ nights” filled with crafts, nail painting, and movie marathons. Being a mom was Sonya’s proudest role, and her love for Loki was immeasurable — the heartbeat of her life.
Sonya also had a wonderful eye for beauty — she loved getting dolled up — full hair and makeup — and heading out on the town, radiating in confidence and her unique style. Sonya had a gift for making friends wherever she went. She connected effortlessly with people from all walks of life. Her big personality, sharp sense of humor and infectious laughter drew people to her. She had an unforgettable smile that would light up any room. Her sparkle, both inside and out, will never be forgotten.
Sonya leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory. She is survived by her parents, Darrell and Shannon Eckhoff; her daughter, Loki Ryals; her three siblings, Heather Crowe (husband, Wesley), DJ Eckhoff (Miranda), Colby Eckhoff (Trinity); and her beloved nieces and nephews: Nolan, Easton, Rhyatt, Grantlee, Saraeya, Octavia, and Raven; her maternal grandmother, Leona Mae Eckhoff, along with many special aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sonya is also survived by the father of her daughter and very close friend, Austin Ryals.
Sonya was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Stan and Sonny Brown, her paternal grandfather, Tickey Eckhoff, and her niece, Maggie Sonya Mae Eckhoff.
