Yesterday
Our friendship spanned months short of 50 years, Sonya and I shared in each other´s lives for the births, marriages, divorces and deaths that came along the way. When I was recuperating from surgeries, Sonya was at my side. So too when she fell and broke her ankle and wrist Sonya lived with me while she recuperated. So many Saturdays we spent having lunch, going to estate sales and window shopping. Whatever was on our mind we shared and we valued each other´s advice. Sonya was much stronger than people recognized. She raised her daughter as a single parent. She managed her rental properties. She kept her home, yard and personal property in tip top shape. She was not afraid of hard work and took pride in whatever she did. Sonya was an excellent listener and was apologetic when she erred. She was human with all that comes with being so. I will sorely miss hearing the "I love you." that ended each of our phone conversations.
