Sonya Barton Kellar, 63, a resident of Lexington, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026, at her residence.
She was born in Forsyth County on August 22, 1962, to the late Joe David Barton and Brenda Hensley Anderson. Sonya worked for Novant Health for many years, where she was known for her dedication and compassion.
On December 27, 1980, she married the love of her life, Tom Kellar, and together they shared 45 years of marriage. Sonya enjoyed traveling to the beach and the mountains, watching Harry Potter movies, celebrating Christmas, and making Christmas candy. Above all else, she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Sonya’s memory are her loving husband, Tom Kellar; two daughters, Amanda Tomkiewicz and Jessica Partin (Derek); four beloved grandchildren, Noah, Gabe, Brooklyn, and Caleb; a brother, Phillip Barton (Deborah); a sister, Donna Wishon (Darwin); and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice and/or the American Cancer Society.
