Sonya Mae Julia Raymond was born March 20, 1974, in Monroe, Michigan. She was one of three children born to the union of Thomas Raymond and Karen (Pribyl) Raymond. She attended St. Mary Catholic Central High School and Mason Consolidated Schools.
Sonya had a very bubbly personality. She loved adventures from taking long bikes rides to traveling to Hawaii where she enjoyed hula dancing. She liked spending time in her garden tending to all her flowers especially her baby pink roses, orchids, and hibiscus. She always looked forward to August when the Monroe County Fair rolled into town.
Sonja seemed to put the needs of others ahead of her own. She loved her family and friends, and especially her nieces and nephews.
Sonya Mae Julia Raymond, age 51 of Monroe, Michigan passed away on Monday; October 27, 2025, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her parents: Thomas and Karen Raymond and her sister: Lisa Raymond.
To cherish her memory, Sonja leaves her son: Drake Raymond; a brother: Tom (Lupe) Raymond; two nieces: Samantha and Brianna Raymond; a nephew: Tristan Raymond; her four-legged companions: Nala, Simba, and Blue, all Labrador Retrievers and Stella the Rhodesian Ridgeback; and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles.
Friends may gather from 10:00am until 12:30pm on Tuesday; November 4, 2025, at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Street, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of Sonya's Life will begin at 12:30pm with Father Louis Lapeyre of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, Michigan, officiating. A procession to St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe, Michigan will follow for entombment.
