Sonya Lee Merrick

Obituary
Sonya Lee Merrick (nee Dickman) was born in Denver, Colorado to Andrew Dickman and Helen Amend and was the oldest of three siblings.
Sonya was born in June of 1939 and lived on the family farm in Brighton, CO during her younger years. Much of her time was spent at her local church with the youth programs there. After graduating high school, she worked as a secretary at the federal center in Lakewood, where she met her husband, William (Bill) Merrick. After getting married, Sonya and Bill purchased a sporting goods store in Frisco, CO and that is where they lived, worked, and raised their son John until Bill's untimely death in 1978. After the loss of her husband, Sonya found her way back to the Brighton area where she lived with her younger brother Dwight. Dwight passed in 2019, and that is when Sonya landed in her forever home with her son John and his wife Nicole.
The family moved to the Western Slope of Colorado where Sonya and John could share in their joy of farming on a small acreage farm in Austin, CO. Sonya loved farming and felt that it brought her closer to God because she was taking care of the land as God had intended.
Sonya enjoyed reading, spoiling the family dog and cat, and a good Hallmark channel movie. Her relationship with God the father and His son Jesus was the most important thing in Sonya's life, and at the time of her passing, she was at peace knowing that she would be seeing both of them soon.
Sonya is survived by her son John (Nicole) Merrick, brother Lee (Yosé) Dickman, nephews Mark and Jeff (Jen), and nieces Gretchen (Tim), Sarah (Christopher) and Helen (Russ). She is preceded in death by both of her parents and younger brother Dwight.
