Sonya Latrelle Sapp was born on October 23, 1972, in Statesboro, Georgia, to Walter Sapp and Jessie Lee Sapp.
A TIME TO LIVE
Sonya was educated in the Screven County public school system and later attended Ogeechee Technical College, where she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. She was employed with Gentiva Home Health until her health began to decline. Known for her vibrant personality, Sonya never met a stranger. She was a helper and a true person who brought joy to everyone she met.
A TIME TO SERVE
At an early age, Sonya accepted Christ and joined William Chapel AME Church, where she remained a faithful member.
A TIME TO REST
After a courageous battle with a long illness, Sonya transitioned peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
A TIME TO MOURN
Sonya leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her loving son, Cefus Nyreek (Amber) Howard of Statesboro, GA, her devoted mother, Jessie Lee Sapp of Statesboro, GA her father, Walter Sapp of Sylvania, GA, her sister, Connie Howard, her precious granddaughter, Wrenley Grace Howard, two special nephews who were like sons, Semcongwon and De'Olajuwon Sapp, two nieces, Quasha Howard and Riya Howard two great-nieces, Ivey Sapp and Harmony Lee.A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loving friends and her devoted pet, Sassy, special friend, Cefus Howard, who is her son's father.
Sonya's life was a testimony of kindness, strength, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 1-6 PM at Smalls Funeral Home, Inc Chapel, located at 203 Samuel Smalls Sr. Ave, Guyton, GA 31312.
A Life Celebration Service will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Williams Chapel AME Church, 3334 Effingham Hwy, Sylvania, GA 30467. She will be laid to rest at Williams Chapel AME Church Cemetery.
