Age 67 of Wilmington, Illinois, formerly of Midlothian, Illinois, died Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 17, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois, Sophia was a daughter of Peter and Rose (Kubiak) Biedron. She was raised and educated in Markham, Illinois and later completed a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing. Sophia worked for many years as a registered nurse specializing in home healthcare. She was a deeply spiritual woman and attended Christian Life Assembly in Diamond, Illinois while living in Wilmington. Sophia enjoyed football and was a die hard Chicago Bears fan, as well as spending time outdoors. She loved to go camping and fishing at Lakepoint Resort in Wilmington, where being in nature brought her great peace. Sophia was happiest when spending time with her dear friends and beloved family. She demonstrated great courage during her battle with cancer, fighting all the way to the end, and though she had left all too soon she made a lasting impact on anyone who crossed her path throughout her lifetime.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Janke of Wilmington, whom she married on June 20, 2000; three children: Rose Petertil, Rachel (Roberto) Urcino, and Josh Petertil, and three step-children: Ashley (Brian) Applebee, Allie (Ryan) Richards, and Michael (Erika) Janke, Jr.; six grandchildren: Manuel, Ezequiel, Vianey, Mila, Ella, and Penelope, with one more grandson expected, Atticus; her brother and sister: John (Cristina) Biedron and Linda (Bill) Reisener; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sophia was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Mary and Stanley.
Per Sophia's wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.
