Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Sophie B. Frederick, 86, who passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Saturday from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am on Saturday morning by Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert.
Father Reed Bellingham will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Reader will be Laura Berard. Gift bearers will be her great-grandchildren: Jacie, Gabrielle and Rylee.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2.
Sophie's career spanned 25 fulfilling years as a cafeteria technician for the St. Martin Parish School Board. She poured her heart and soul into providing nourishing meals for countless students, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. Her passion for cooking and baking extended beyond her profession, as she delighted in preparing meals for her family and friends, creating memorable moments around the dinner table.
Aside from her culinary talents, Sophie found immense joy in spending time with her entire family. She was a pillar of strength and love, always there to lend a listening ear, offer words of wisdom, and provide unwavering support. Sophie's devotion to her beloved husband, Herman Frederick, spanned an incredible 68 years, demonstrating an unwavering commitment and unbreakable bond.
A woman with an adventurous spirit, Sophie cherished the opportunity to travel with her family across the country. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Frederick; son, Carl Frederick (Marlene); daughter, Melinda Richard (Mark); grandchildren, Kodie LeBlanc (Mark), Kerrie Schouest (Lee), Lane Richard (Joy), Bryce Richard, Kacie LeBlanc (Corey), Jenna LeBlanc (Matt), Mattie Otori (Sulay) and Destyn Frederick; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Gabrielle, Jacie, Trae, Eva, Mason, Graham, Lucy, Liam, Destyn, Jr., Tristan, Kingston and Harrison; brother, Ronald Brasseaux; and sister, Bea Melancon.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Drucilla Frederick LeBlanc; parents, Anes and Aureline Betancourt Brasseaux; parents-in-law, Elus and Emelie Frederick; sisters, Ida "Pat" Dyson, Marie Genevieve Alleman, Mae LeBlanc and Thema Thomassee; and brothers, Lester Betancourt, Sr. and Lloyd Brasseaux, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Lane Richard, Bryce Richard, Ronnie Brasseaux, Mark LeBlanc, Lee Schouest and Mason LeBlanc.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, as well as Dr. Warren Degatur and his staff, for their care and compassion.
