Mrs. Sophie A. (Szczepanski) Kapral, 95, entered into eternal life the early morning of Sunday, October 6th while in the care of the Meadows Personal Care Center, Lake Street, Dallas.
In her own words, "Naked she came forth from her mother's womb and naked she'll go back again bereft of earthly goods except for the soul God so lovingly imparted within.
A graduate of the former Marymount High School, Wilkes-Barre, class of 1947, she was born on May 11, 1929 in Wilkes-Barre; the last surviving of six children to the late Ludwik and Anna (Pudzisz) Szczepanski, also spelled Stepanski.
In 1951 she married George Kapral of Swoyersville and from that time on became a wife, homemaker and mother.
Throughout the years, God had given her many bouquets of roses, but at times forgot to remove the thorns. Her trust in God and her Catholic faith was her beacon of light and strength which got her through the trying times.
Previously, after her family was grown, Mrs. Kapral enjoyed sharing her spare time as a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program and the former Leader West Nursing Home, both of Kingston as well as the Saint Vincent de Paul Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband George on March 13, 1988. At the time of Mr. Kapral's passing, the couple shared some thirty-seven years of married life together.
Also preceding her was a son, George M. Kapral in March of 2003; Sisters, Mrs. Stella Petro and Mrs. Mary Jerzek; along with brothers Casimir, Michael, Theodore and infant brother Josef Stepanski.
Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of their mother are her children, Deborah Kapral of Kingston, caregiver to her mother and with whom Mrs. Kapral previously resided; Constance Kapral and her partner Sal Imbriano of Millsboro, Delaware; Gerald Kapral and his wife Michelle of Dallas; Neal Kapral also of Dallas; Suzanne Kapral and her husband Mike Galanda of Shavertown; Donald Kapral; Daugher-in-law, Jeanne Kapral of Shavertown; Seven grandchildren; Three great-grandchildren; Several generations of nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.
Memorial funeral services for Mrs. Kapral will be conducted on All Souls Day, Saturday, November 2nd with her funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Ignatius Loyola Parish, 339 North Maple Avenue, Kingston.
Inurnment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family in Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery, West Wyoming.
Relatives and friends may gather directly at church Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Memorial donations, if desired, would be appreciated in Mrs. Kapral's memory to the Jerry Cebulski African Disability Foundation, 47 Hartford Avenue, Shavertown, PA 18708-1242; payable to J.C.A.D.F. This foundation was established to continue the work of friend, Sister Sponsa Beltran, O.S.F., a Bernadine nun who dedicated her life in war-torn Liberia; taking and rescuing unwanted and abandoned crippled children; and later adults as well.
