Obituary of Sophie Mechell
Sophie Mechell, age 91, of Collegeville, PA passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 14, 1933, the daughter of the late Michael and the late Catherine (Chaplia) Tomchewsky.
Sophie was a longtime resident of Northeast Philadelphia and parishioner of Maternity BVM Church. She has been living in Collegeville for the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Anthony M. Mechell.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Mechell Lentz (Richard) and Eileen Mechell (Darryl Kunzman), one son, Anthony M. Mechell, Jr., DMD (Jean) and sister, Olga Kostic. She is also survived by two grandsons, Christopher (Patricia) Lentz and Ryan (Lisa) Lentz, and eight great grandchildren, Sophie, Owen, Landon, Helena, Ryder, Declan, Emilia and Isla.
Along with her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by six siblings.
Sophie will be missed for her warm, outgoing personality, love of family, and deep faith. She adored her Philadelphia Phillies and enjoyed singing to all types of music.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM from St. Eleanor's RC Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, PA 19426.
Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Monday morning from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Church.
Interment will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA.
