Sophie Posluszny

Sophie Posluszny (neé Scaglione) died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, after 91 years of a rich and fruitful life. She was the daughter of Peter and Frances Scaglione, who emigrated from Sicily and started the Garfield Macaroni Factory in the 1930's. She was predeceased by her sisters, Dominica (Mae) Licciardi and Jacqueline Williams, and her brother, Giacamo Scaglione.
Sophie attended school in both Garfield, NJ and Rochester, NY. She married Frank Posluszny on June 10, 1950, at the age of 17. They remained happily married for 62 years, until Frank passed away on July 20, 2012.
Sophie and Frank raised their family in West Paterson and Totowa, and eventually moved to Brick Township after retirement. Throughout their marriage, they welcomed friends and family into their home to play cards, chat, and enjoy holidays together. Their home was always filled with laughter and good conversation. Many who shared those times were absorbed into their extended 'family', and have benefited greatly from Sophie's shared love and wisdom over her long life. She also shared desserts and conversation with her neighbors, a tradition that continued even after she moved to Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains to be closer to her children.
Sophie is survived by three children and their spouses: Peter (and Chris) Posluszny, Carol (and Vince) Schiavo, and Nancy (and Greg) Orzel. She was predeceased by her son Robert, who is survived by his wife, Claire. She will be sorely missed by her children, her 11 grandchildren, her 9 great-grandchildren, and her extended family and friends.
Friends and family may visit from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, August 5th at Scanlan's, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am on Tuesday, August 6th at Cedar Crest Chapel, Pompton Plains.
