While students at McCallie, Butch and I were friends but most of our time together was due to sports programs.
Years later while attending McCallie's reunions my wife Bev and I had time together with Butch and his wife Peggy. They added us to their email address list, which was both informative and humorous.
We will miss Butch and hope Peggy keeps the emails coming.
Love to you both

Dr. Neale was a tremendous person. I always admired him and enjoyed singing with him in our church choir. The family remains in our family's thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry about Spottswood. He was a very kind man. Always have great memories of singing with him in the choir at WPC. My dad thought the world of him. He will be mixed. Peggy. You and your family are in my prayers! Much Love

I was so young when I knew him that it is hard for me to speak on personal knowledge. That being said, the outpouring of love and the comments I am seeing remind me that he was well loved and had a wonderful family and well lived life. My deepest condolences to the entire family. I have always found the words of the Gaelic Blessing to be comforting during times of profound loss. Please know that our family is praying for you during this difficult time and although recent world events prevent many from physically attending, we are lifting you up and rejoicing that he is reuniting in heaven with loved ones gone before.
Deep peace of the running wave to you
Deep peace of the flowing air to you
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you
Deep peace of the shining stars to you
Deep peace of the gentle night to you
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you
Deep peace of Christ the light of the world to you
Deep peace of Christ to you

Our families have always been intertwined and made a tradition of going to Clearwater Beach each summer to visit Norm's and Peggy's parents. Butch always came as a willing participant although he might have preferred to have been on a golf course instead of the beach. He knew and lived the importance of family.
We all watched the parents grow older and our children mature on our annual outings. The cousins could see each other for an extended period of time each year. Those were golden times that Butch's active participation made even better. Butch was considered such a member of the family that one time, when Butch was lying on his back on the beach, Norm's and Peggy's mother gave Butch a raspberry on his stomach. Butch was really family.
We were with you all in spirit today. We loved Butch very much.
Love to you all,
Norm and Barb

I remember Dr. Neale's voice--not just his chancel choir voice, but his beautiful conversational tone. I can still hear it clearly when I think of him, and his laughter, too. Even as a child, he always made me feel as though I had said something important ....later, when I would return home from college, he asked me the most interesting questions and seemed delighted to hear about what I was reading and to fill me in on Duke basketball stats. I'm holding all of you close in my heart today.

Dr. Neale was very patient with all of us Girl Scouts invading your home for playdates and sleepovers! I love remembering you making us rice krispie treats and calling out to your sweet Butch. He was a kind soul and had a nice smile.
Much love to you, Peggy, Jennifer, David and Christy...all of the Neale family.
May God surround you with love.

A wonderful, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, physician, Christian, friend who left his mark on his world. He and Peggy fought the good fight for several years. God bless all that he touched---especially his beloved Peggy. God bless you---everyone. Dick and Barbara Schafer

Mrs. Neale, children, grandchildren, and family: I had the privilege of meeting Spottswood on a mission trip to Lithuania. He was a delightful person, hard worker, and never failed to make me laugh! He participated in the work to convert a Soviet Army "recruiting" center (train stop before Siberia) into a Methodist church in Birzai, Lithuania. I have a great picture of him, in full protective (medical) gear, sanding down the sheetrock in the upstairs of the church. I always smile when I think of that trip, our time as teammates, and what wonderful folks God has placed in my path over the years. May God bless you and keep you all, and may your memories make you smile.
