Spurgeon “Bunny” Brown 70 of the Little Canada Community passed away on Thursday August 10. He was born on January 25, 1953 to the late Filbert Brown and Gertrude Luker Brown. Spurgeon was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved God, his family, and his friends, as well as hunting, fishing, and church activities. He was a member of the Community Church of God.
Bunny spent his days making the lives of all those around him better. He never met a stranger and was kind to everyone. He loved all animals and nursed many back to health. He enriched the lives of many, teaching them traditional values.
He is survived by his wife, Cara Lee Jones Brown; his daughters, Marguerite Brown (Vincent “Junior”) of Wilson and Jessica Brown (Freddy) of Tuckasegee; his sons, Spurgeon “Toby” Brown of Tuckasegee, Jonathan Brown (Jessa) of Sylva, and James Brown (Melody) of Tuckasegee; sixteen grandchildren; two of his 23 siblings, Helen Gilliland of Anderson, and Pearl Smith of Sweet Home, Oregon. A sister-in-law, Margaret Anne Wagner of Anderson; daughter-in-law, Cara Jones of Alarka as well as numerous nieces and nephews, which he loved as his own, also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday August 13th at Community Church of God with the Rev. Leonard “Doc” Luker, Rev. David Luker, Rev. Roger Luker, Rev. Jason Bryson, and Rev. Caleb Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Shook Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamie Luker, Ernest Franks, Darrell Luker, Dalton Broom, Randy Luker (Honorary) and Mike Bryson.
