Sister Julia Acosta, BVM (Lorenzo), 99, of Mount Carmel Bluffs, 1160 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, died Monday, July 21, 2025.

Visitation will be from 9-9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, in the Mary Frances Clarke Chapel at Mount Carmel Bluffs. Sharing of Memories will be at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial is in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Sister Julia taught at St. Patrick Elementary School and High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and St. Joseph Elementary School in New Hampton, Iowa. She also served as an elementary teacher in Rock Island, Ill.; Chicago; Cicero, Ill.; and Wilmington, Ill. She taught high school Spanish in Memphis, Tenn.; Mundelein, Ill.; and Chicago.

She was born on Aug. 13, 1925, in Valley Junction, Iowa, to Lawrence and Henrietta (Horcasitas) Acosta. She entered the BVM congregation Sept. 8, 1943, from St. Agatha Parish, Chicago. She professed first vows on March 19, 1946, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1951.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Lawrence, Arthur (Olga), and William (Frances) Acosta; and sister-in-law Maxine Acosta. She is survived by a brother Henry Acosta; nieces; nephews; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 81 years.
