Stanley Wayne Alvarez, known fondly as Wayne to those who had the pleasure of knowing him, passed away quietly at his beloved farm in Bradford County on February 24, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on November 2, 1947, in Bradford County, Florida, to the late Donald and Vera Mae Alvarez, he spent a good part of his life working hard and enjoying the simple blessings that nature had to offer.
Wayne took pride in his work, spending many years as a foreman in asphalt and paving until his well-deserved retirement in 2002. Yet, he never truly hung up his boots, as he continued to farm and raise cattle and hogs, keeping his hands busy for as long as he could. He was a quiet man, keeping to himself more than most, preferring the company of a fishing rod or the tranquil sounds of the outdoors, especially down by his spot on the Suwannee River.
Family was important to Wayne, and he is survived by his dear children, Darren Alvarez, Charles (Samira) Alvarez, and Daniel Alvarez. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Marvin, Donald, and Tammy Shaw, and his grandchildren: Zoey, Kayli, Isabella, Samir, Leif, and Imogene, who will always think fondly of their Papa Wayne. He is also survived by his brother Jimmy (Joyce) Alvarez, and his sisters, Glenda Lewis, and Linda (Joe) Robinson who will miss him dearly.
Wayne is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Imogene O'Neal Alvarez, parents, Donald and Vera Mae Alvarez, and his siblings Faye Bethel, Don Alvarez, and Janice Alvarez.
A graveside service will be held for Wayne at 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Dyal Cemetery. A visitation time will be held 30 minutes prior at the same location, where family and friends can gather to share stories and say their goodbyes.
In every way, Wayne was a simple man who enjoyed the beauty of nature and the warmth of family. His legacy will continue to live on in their hearts and stories.
