Stanley James “Stan” Bukacek was born on August 31, 1942, on the family homestead known as “The Klondike,” northeast of Deloit, Iowa, to Stanley and Maryalyce (Riley) Bukacek. He grew up on a farm north of Vail, Iowa, and attended Milford Country School through fifth grade. He then attended Vail town school for sixth through eighth grades. Stan graduated from AR-WE-VA schools with the Class of 1960.
As a young man, Stan worked for many of his neighbors, driving tractor, baling hay, and helping with general farm work. After high school, his first job was helping to build new schools in Vail and Arcadia. He also worked in highway construction and briefly at IBP before beginning his 38-year career with Farmland Foods in 1962, retiring in 2000.
Stan married Carol Miller in 1963, and together they became parents to three children: Laurie, Darien, and Tawnya. In 1987, he married Jackie (Reeser) Beermann and lovingly took on the role of father to her three children: Jason, Jeremy, and Jennifer. The couple lived on an acreage near Charter Oak before eventually moving into town, where Stan resided until his passing.
Following his retirement from Farmland Foods, Stan joined Jackie in running their business, Simply Silverware, where they created handcrafted wooden items and jewelry made from silverware—a shared hobby they both enjoyed. After Jackie’s passing in 2007, Stan enjoyed retirement for a time before deciding to stay active by joining Arnold Motor Supply in 2014, where he took great pleasure in delivering auto parts and visiting with customers.
In his leisure time, Stan enjoyed golfing and taking great pride in his yard, which he personally landscaped after purchasing. However, his greatest passion was his collection of firearms. Stan loved collecting, trading, selling, and shooting guns, and he was well known in the local community and at the gun shop in Denison for his extensive knowledge of firearms.
Stan went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jackie Bukacek, and brother Roger Bukacek.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Laurie (Bryan) Mumm of Soldier; Darien Bukacek of Omaha, NE; Tawnya (Keith) LiaBraaten of Papillion, NE; Jason (Melanie) Beermann of Lake Elsinore, CA; Jeremy (Bonnie) Beermann of Dunlap; and Jennifer Benedix of Mapleton; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Carolyn Bukacek of Denison; special friend, Laura Martz of Charter Oak; along with many extended family members and friends.
Visitation with family greeting friends will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., also at St. John Lutheran Church.
