Stanley T. Cooper, affectionately known as "Tim" or "Pop," passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at his home in Dover, Delaware, after a brief illness. He was 89 years old. Tim was born on July 14, 1935, in Harlem, New York, the second child of the late William and Catherine Cooper. He was raised in New York City and was educated in the New York City public school system, where he earned his high school diploma.
In 1963, Tim began his professional career with the United States Postal Service. He met the love of his life, Lillian Smith, in 1968. The two were later united in marriage on August 12, 1986, and shared cherished years together. Tim later transitioned to a position with the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), where he served as a Subway Train Conductor. During his tenure, he earned various commendations, including a letter of appreciation from the NYC Transit Authority for his efforts in preventing vandalism on train cars by youth. He retired in June 1992 after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
Following his retirement, Tim and Lillian relocated to Dover, Delaware, where they became devoted members of Calvary Assembly of God. They were soon baptized at the church. Tim remained a faithful member of the church for over 30 years. He was especially active in the "Keenagers" ministry, volunteering his time to support the church's laity and youth programs. One of his greatest joys was assisting with Vacation Bible School each summer.
Tim was also a social and active member of the Dover community. He enjoyed daily morning walks at the Blue Hen Mall, often with his good friend Frank, and remained active in his walking group until the age of eighty-six (86). He participated regularly in outings with the "Keenagers", including birthday lunches, dinner theatres, and plays. His calendar was always full, attending events at the Modern Maturity Center, bus trips, and even placing a few friendly wagers on horse races at Dover Downs.
He was known for his sharp mind, love of debate, and passion for discussing a wide range of topics. Music brought him immense joy, and he could often be found as the first to take the dance floor at family gatherings.
Tim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian Cooper; his parents, William and Catherine Cooper; his brothers, Ralph and William "Heads" Cooper Jr.; and his son, Gary Cooper.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Stanley Timothy Cooper Jr., Victoria Troy, and Jermaine Cooper (O'Shell); sister, Barbara Cook; daughter-in-law, Kathy Regina Cooper; grandchildren, Tamika Webster, Shawn Cooper, Delmonte Cooper, Brittaney Cotton, Ciani Cooper, Simone Cooper, and Jermaine "Stan" Cooper; great-grandchildren, Marell and Tarell; niece, Tina Cooper; nephews, Troy and Tony Cooper; and a host of in-laws, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
