Stanley Eugene Gray, 71 passed away Friday September 8th, 2023 at ECU Health.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM at the funeral home.
Stanley was born in Beaufort County, North Carolina as the son of the late James "Bud" Gray and Geneva Ingalls Gray. His childhood years were spent in Pactolus. As an adult, he made Belvoir his home. As a young man in High School, he served his community as a volunteer fireman. After graduating from college, Stanley became a professional firefighter with Greenville Fire Department. He settled into a lifelong career at NACCO/Hyster- Yale where he worked from 1978 until his retirement.
Remaining an active part of his community, Stanley was a member of the Belvoir Free Will Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. When he wasn't dedicating his time to the church, Stanley enjoyed working with his hands and building things for family & friends. A favorite for Stanley was watching slapstick comedy as well as going to the movies where he always enjoyed the biggest popcorn bucket available. In addition, Stanley was known as quite a WWII history buff and an avid reader.
In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Gray.
Surviving are loving wife of 47 years, Debra Stancill Gray; sons, Jason Gray and wife, Patience, and Daniel Gray and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Rachel Gray, Eva Gray, and Ethan Gray; brother, Jimmy Gray; sisters, Sheila Clark and Katrina Gray; and a number of nieces and nephews.
