Stanley Hortz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home - Worthington on Mar. 9, 2026.
Stanley "Stan" William Hortz, a devoted family man, lifelong musician, and dedicated community servant, passed away on March 6, 2026, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was 78 years old. Born on June 18, 1947, in Camden, New Jersey, Stan dedicated his life to caring for others and bringing people together through service and song. As a teenager, he volunteered as a firefighter for Lindenwold #2 Firehall. His early years were spent at the fire hall and in the Lindenwold community he loved, where he later served his hometown as a fire commissioner. As an adult, he became a proud member of the Audubon New Jersey Masonic Lodge. Stan also enjoyed his time as a volunteer coach for his two sons' baseball teams, mentoring the young men on his roster. Professionally, Stan enjoyed a long career at Owens Corning Fiberglass as a ceramic engineer, where he built many lasting friendships with colleagues.

Family and music were Stan's passions. An active musician for decades, he often performed alongside his wife, Florence ("Flo"), at music festivals, weddings, and community events throughout his retirement, sharing joy through music with family and neighbors. Stan enjoyed his retirement years spent with his Snapshots Lounge family in Granville. He was known and loved by everyone who regularly spent time there.

Stan is survived by his wife, Florence T. Hortz; his son Brian (Jennifer) Hortz of Worthington; grandchildren Bryce (Lauren) Hortz of Gahanna, William Hortz of Worthington, Lauren (Mathew) Miller of Massachusetts, and Jerrica and Jillian Hortz of Newark. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Helma Hortz; his stepmother, Vera Hortz; and his son, Eric Michael Hortz. He also leaves many friends from Owens Corning, the Lindenwold fire hall, and the music community who will miss his warmth and generosity.

Friends and family remember Stan as a compassionate caretaker, a true collaborator in music, and a pillar of his community whose kindness touched everyone he met. Stan's family will host a celebration of life at a date and location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org/donate/) in his memory.

I don´t remember me but I used to do water exercise with Flo. I spent some time at your house listening to you and Stan play your "old time" music. Such a talented nice man.
