Stanley Jacobs Obituary
Stanley Jacobs
June 30, 1942 - March 1, 2023
Clinton, South Carolina - Stanley James Jacobs,80, died March 1 2023 at his home after several months of illness. He was born in Columbia, the son of Fletcher James Jacobs and Catherine Brown Jacobs. His parents predeceased him as well as a younger sister who died as a newborn.
Despite modest beginnings, he was of a proud and rich lineage of English, African, and Native peoples that are very much the legacy of South Carolina. He was a graduate of University High School in Columbia. Active from childhood in baseball, basketball, and other sports he embraced life for 80+ years until his recent illness. He was especially proud of his US Army stent as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and as a Green Beret. He was a life-long plumber and champion of the profession despite variable success in transferring this expertise to his children. Not bound to any one church or religion he found great joy in reading philosophy, science, and history. This love of knowledge and reading he passed on to his children allowing them to define success in their own unique way.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carol Wimbish Jacobs, who with him, experienced a roller-coaster for life but always held on. He has six children surviving him: Dr. Troy Jacobs (Kawsar) of Takoma Park MD; Dr. Teresa Finlayson (Leigh) of Atlanta GA; Mark Jacobs (Lynda) of Hammond LA; Tammy Hess (Rick) of Kinards SC; Shawn Jacobs (Wendy) and Keith Jacobs of Columbia SC. He also has 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. All will miss his cantankerous presence, humor, and love.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Laurens Nursing Health Center, and Hospice of Laurens County for their kind and expert care. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Kidney Fund in his memory. No service is planned after cremation by SC Cremation Society. Plans for a future memorial by family and friends will be shared separately.
