Stanley Patrick Kotajarvi

Stanley P. Kotajarvi, known affectionately as Stan to his friends and family, passed away peacefully in Holt on August 26, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 17, 1941, in Michigan's upper peninsula, Stan was a man of adventure, faith, and exceptional handiness.

Stan's early years were spent in the nurturing company of his parents, Edwin and Martha Kotajarvi, and his siblings. His journey through life was marked by a passion for learning, which led him to graduate from Southfield High School, later earning a Bachelor's degree from Wayne State University and a Master's degree from the University of Michigan.

In 1965, Stan married Sandra "Sandi" Walkley. Their marriage blossomed into a beautiful partnership that lasted nearly 60 years, filled with love, support, and mutual respect. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Robbin and Brian. Stan is survived by his wife Sandi, his daughter Robbin, his son Brian (Sonoe), his 3 grandchildren, a brother, two sisters, and a host of nieces and nephews. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Martha, and one brother.

Stan's professional life was dedicated to enriching the minds of people as a respected English teacher. A man of many interests, Stan was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding solace and joy in the great outdoors. He was a skilled handyman and an enthusiastic golfer. He was a devoted churchgoer at the University Lutheran Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and fellowship.

A Memorial Service will be held at the University Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at 11:00 am. The location is at 1020 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing, Michigan 48823. Family will receive relatives & friends beginning at 10:00am until service the service time. A luncheon will be held at the church following services.
