Stanley Leon O'Bier, 79, of Callao, Virginia passed away after a brave battle with cancer on Monday, June 2, 2025. Born in Northumberland County to the late Clifton William O'Bier and the late Nettie Gertrude Bryant O'Bier. He graduated from Northumberland County High School where he met his late wife of 53 years, Marilyn Deihl O'Bier. Stanley was the president and owner of the Pride of Virginia Bait & Cold Storage and of the Pride of Virginia Trucking Company Company as well as a partner in the Pride of Virginia Bait & Oyster, Inc., and O'Bier Seafood, Inc. He was a member of Henderson U.M.C.
Stanley carried on his family legacy in the seafood business, expanding a small operation to four local plants with dozens of employees around the Northern Neck. He was the president and owner of Pride of Virginia Seafood, Pride of Virginia Bait & Cold Storage, and Pride of Virginia Trucking Company, which he started with his late wife. His companies supplied bait up and down the East Coast, and there weren't many places you could go that hadn't heard of Stanley or his Pride of Virginia fleet.
Stanley had many nicknames over the years: "Osprey Whisperer," "Bait King," and "Bait Man." His first love was the water, and he dedicated his life to his businesses that thrived from it. His favorite place to be was sitting in his office at Mundy Point, catching up with his customers, whom he treated like family, while looking out a window with a picturesque view of the Potomac River. Stanley had just started to retire in eastern North Carolina with his fiancée, Joann Cottle. He was a member of Henderson U.M.C. and continued serving the Lord at a church in North Carolina.
Stanley is survived by his sons, Stanley Leon O'Bier, Jr. (Kimberly), and William "Bill" Henry O'Bier (Dana); his grandchildren: Logan, Mallory, Andrew, Taylor, Sydney, Chloey and Alley; his sister Annette Bowles; and his brothers.
Stanley was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marilyn; his parents Clifton and Nettie; and his siblings Larry O'Bier and Peggy O'Bier Deihl.
A funeral service for Stanley will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 8, 2025, with the Reverends Evelyn Penn and Shauna McCranie officiating. The family will receive their friends for two hours prior to the service at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Following his service Stanley will be laid to rest beside Marilyn in Henderson U.M.C. Cemetery.
To honor Stanley's love of his Northern Neck Community the family asks that you consider making a donation in his loving memory to either the Callao Hometown Association Park Fund, to the Callao Volunteer Fire Department, or to Henderson U.M.C.
