Stanley Polcyn Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 26, 2025.
Stanley Joseph Polcyn passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025 at his residence in Washington Crossing, PA. He was 95 years old.

Stanley was the beloved husband of Carole Polcyn. The couple shared 71 years of marriage, love and family.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on July 16, 1930, Stanley was the only son of the late Lorraine Wojciechowski (1907-1971) and Stanley Francis Polcyn (1905-1981).

A proud graduate of Lane Tech College Prep High School class of 1948, he went on to major in Industrial Engineering at Northwestern University. In 1950 school was interrupted by the Korean War and he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. He was a flight engineer for a PBM-5, a Navy Seaplane patrol bomber where he patrolled the South China Sea. He returned to Northwestern and graduated in 1954 with a BSIE and then later returned to Northwestern's Kellogg School of Business and received a MBA in 1958.

Upon his return from the war, he met his lovely wife Carole (Tomasic) of 71 years at a church dance. Together they built a beautiful life, raising six children, and welcoming 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. They moved to Newtown, CT in 1972 and built a home where they lived for 45 years.

Stanley was at the forefront of the Robotics Industry. After working in technical and marketing positions at Otis Elevators, Dresser Industries, and Roller Bearing Co. of America, in 1973 he moved his family to Connecticut where he joined Unimation Inc., manufacturer of The Unimate, the world's first industrial robot, as its General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. In 1981 Stanley was promoted to Senior Vice President and tri-member of the office of the President. Unimation Inc. went public that same year and in 1983 was purchased by Westinghouse. He was the President of the Robotic Industries Association and served on the Board of Directors of Robotics International.

Stanley was involved in the United Way, was an active member of the Catholic Church, an avid reader, skied Whiteface Mountain well into his 80's, traveled the world, and had a meticulous work room. His beautiful blue eyes, gorgeous head of hair and outgoing personality could light up any room. He made a point to seek out others to lift their spirts and "have a great day"!

Above all, Stanley found his greatest joy in being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was famous for carrying his "magic black box" filled with special books and gently used toys he gathered from garage sales specifically for his grandchildren.

Stanley is survived by his beloved wife Carole; his children Mark (Patricia) Polcyn of Fullerton, CA; Dr. Carla Polcyn of Armonk NY; Linda (Joseph) Peters of Washington Crossing, PA; James (Isabelle) Polcyn of Saratoga, CA; and Suzanne (Joseph) Polcyn DeLuca of Phoenixville, PA. Sadly, his son David (Hitomi) passed away in November 2014 while hiking in the Beaver Creek area of the Coconino National Forest. Additionally, he is survived by 15 grandchildren; Rebecca (Monte) Beard, Adam (Pamela) Polcyn; Sachie Polcyn; Ryan, Kyle and Dylan McCarthy; Danielle (Christopher) McGovern; Joseph (Andrea), Caroline and Michael Peters; Alexander (Yagmur) and Addison Polcyn; and Nicholas, Anthony and Victoria DeLuca. He was also blessed with great grandchildren Madalyn and Benjamin Beard; Luana Polcyn; Kemal Polcyn; James, Charlotte and Peter McGovern; and Brooklyn DeLuca. Lastly, Carole's family blessed him with many brothers and sisters-in-law, and innumerable nieces and nephews which were all a part of his family.

Stanley's legacy is one of family, perseverance and optimism. He will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Stanley's family Wednesday December 3rd from 10:00am until the start of the Funeral Mass, at 11:00am, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church at 1 Riverstone Circle in New Hope, PA 18938.
