Stanley Eugene Stutzman, Frytown, died January 24, 2024 after a short battle with a brain tumor at Halcyon House in Washington, IA at the age of 87. He was born June 17, 1936 in Rural Kalona to parents, Ervin and Lydia (Bontrager) Stutzman.
Stan attended East Lincoln rural school. He was united in marriage in 1954 to Shirley Martin. They had 3 boys, Walt, Curtis and Lyle, that they raised in Frytown.
In the ‘60’s he purchased a farm which he & Shirley later created as a small development called Terrace Acres. Stan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, building homes and relationships, woodworking and volunteering his talents.
He loved his work and highlights of his career included welding at Yoder Feeds and the University of Iowa Hydraulics Lab where he worked from Feburary 1960 until he retired as a University Staff member & Purchasing Manager. His favorite project was the Columbia River Dams and fish ladders.
He is survived by his sister, Alta Widmer, 3 sons Walt (Patty) of Washington, Curtis (Svetlana) of Kalona, Lyle (Monica) of Panora, grandchildren: Shauna (Todd) Olson, Joni (Eric) Jones, Shelby (Merrell) Middleton, Sonja (Stewart Masters)Stutzman, Alex Stutzman, Artyom (Ashley) Rayev, Mikhala (Bryan) Febel, Morgan Stutzman and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife Shirley and 11 siblings; John, Omar, Levi, Henry, EJ, LeRoy, Mary Bontrager, Ada , Barbara Bender, Ann Raber and infant sister.
Celebration of life will be held at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, 1408 540th St. SW, Kalona, IA, March 9. Visitation with family will be from 2-4 PM with the service following. Memorials can be made to Crooked Creek Christian Camp, 2830 Coppock Road, Washington, IA 52353 for a scholarship fund.
People will remember Stan for his kindness and enthusiastic statement, “Oh, Wow! That’s amazing!”
