Stanley R. Veach, 77, of Farlington, died at 6:42 p.m., Sunday, November 3, 2024 in the Girard Medical Center.
Stanley was born December 29, 1946 in Courtland, Kansas, a son of Glenn and Lillian (Evert) Veach. He grew up and attended schools in Courtland, Kansas and graduated from Courtland High School, now Pike Valley High School.
Stanley married Evelyn Joyce Isaacson on January 8, 1966 in Formoso, Kansas and Evelyn preceded Stanley in death on May 17, 2022.
He served in the US Army from 1966 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1968. They moved to Germany five months after they were married and lived for a year and half there while Mr. Veach was employed with the military police.
Once they returned from Germany, they lived in Courtland until he was hired by the Kansas Highway Patrol. At that time they moved to WaKeeney, Kansas, where they lived for six months, then moved to Oakley, Kansas.
Stanley was a sergeant in the Kansas Highway Patrol before retiring in December of 2001.
Evelyn and Stanley owned and operated the Montgomery Wards Store in Oakley before moving to Independence, Kansas. He served as Montgomery County Sheriff from 2005 until 2009. He co-owned R & S Security from 2009 until 2019. He had the ability to repair anything that was broken.
He was a member of the Tyro Christian Church at Tyro, Kansas, the Kansas Peace Officers Association, the National Rifle Association, and the Olson-Friary-Burkhart Post No. 25, American Legion of Fort Scott.
Stanley enjoyed his grandchildren, farming, reading, hunting, and reloading ammunition.
Survivors include his daughter, Becky Herlocker, and her husband, Brian, of Farlington; his grandchildren, Kensi Burke and her husband Cory, Brianna Herlocker, Bethany Herlocker; his step-grandchildren, Ashley Turner and Cody Sweeten; his step-great-granddaughter, Haley Stevens; his brother, Gary Veach, and his wife, Shirley, of Topeka; his sister, Jean Anne Duckworth, and her husband, Scott, of Etowah, Tennessee.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a daughter, Tammy Sweeten.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Dave Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in the Farlington Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the Pike Valley Foundation and these may be left at the funeral home at 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
