Memories from Stanley's grandchildren;
I would say my best memory of papa would be him saving me from the freezing river. Wouldn't be here today if it weren't for that, which I'm forever grateful for.
Love your grandson Michael
My papa was a man of many things, but one thing that always stuck with me was to always be true to yourself and with a little hard work and dedication things will work out in the end. Another one of my favorite things that he told me was that his favorite job of all time was tapping kegs for Pabst Blue Ribbon and playing golf for the army. I'll miss your intelligent conversations and firm handshakes. Fly high young man I'll never forget you and you will always be in my heart.
Love your grandson Matthew
Papa Stan was a superhero to me. He really was a real life Clark Kent, super strong and super smart. On top of those, he never failed to give me a good laugh. I'll never forget even when he was about to be 80 years old, he was still giving me a run for my money in arm wrestling. I could never hold back against him otherwise I'd surely lose. When his dementia started to develop, he seemed to only remember when he beat me in arm wrestling when I was 14 and never the years after. It gives me a good laugh knowing that he now never remembered the times where I beat him.
Love your grandson Justin
Life is a library book, borrowed when we are born, enjoyed and cared for throughout our lives, then ultimately returned at the time of our passing. My grandfather was an uncomplicated man, a man who understood that his greatest responsibility in life was caring for the small piece of the world over which he held influence. To him, that was his family and friends. Providing for a beautiful wife, loving children, and often unruly grandchildren, was his highest calling. His presence and the home that he fostered was a constant, a harborage for his family that was free from the trials of the outside world. Personal struggles somehow mattered less when seated at his dinner table. As my grandfather returns his book, I hold close this dearest lesson; while the world around us becomes ever more complicated and challenging, become a caretaker of that which you can control, nurture and brighten the lives of those around you, so when the time comes to return our own books, they may continue to be enjoyed by those who follow us.
Thank you, Grandpa.
Your loving grandson, Reeve
