Steele Gregory Obituary

Steele Gregory

March 23, 1940 - April 5, 2025

Danville, Kentucky - Russell Steele Gregory, 85, passed away on April 5, 2025. Steele was born on March 24, 1940, and was a lifetime resident of Danville, Kentucky. He graduated from Danville High School and Stetson University in Deland, Florida.

Steele was deeply involved in the Danville business community, including serving almost 50 years as owner of Johnson & Pohlmann Insurance and developing the Rolling Meadows subdivision and numerous other residential and commercial real estate projects. In addition, Steele served on many business and civic boards, including the Danville-Boyle County Industrial Foundation, Rotary, Danville School Board, and Chamber of Commerce. Steele loved playing golf at the Danville Country Club, where he served as President for several years, spending time at Herrington Lake with family, taking trips to Hilton Head, the Highlands, and Florida, and enjoying extended family reunions at many Kentucky State Parks.

Steele is survived by three children, Jeffrey Steele (Anne) Gregory, Marnie Gregory Walters, and Megan Gregory (Todd) Walz; six grandchildren, Matthew, Eric, David, Margi, Patrick, and Annie; sisters-in-law, Jayne Horky Thompson and Mary Lindy Gregory; and many nieces and nephews. Steele was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Margaret Dyche Gregory; his wife of 52 years, Ann Horky Gregory; his sister, Gayle Gregory King; and his brother, David Dyche Gregory.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all those who provided such compassionate care over the past few years, including the staff at The Springs of Stonybrook and his amazing team of private caregivers.

Steele was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all he knew. He was greatly loved and admired and will be deeply missed.

The funeral service will be 12:00 noon, Friday, April 11, 2025, at First Christian Church on 555 E Lexington Ave, Danville, KY 40422, with Rev. Colby Smith officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the Church.
