Ann Hunsaker Obituary

Ann Truitt Hunsaker, devoted mother, pioneering attorney, and proud daughter of Kentucky, passed away on December 28, 2025, in Palm Desert, California, at the age of 83. Born on November 21, 1942 in Lexington, she graduated from Lafayette High School, the University of Kentucky, and the UK College of Law. Entering the legal profession when few women did, Ann built a distinguished career centered on health-care policy and public service.

Ann married John Claiborne Hunsaker III in 1968, and their son, John Claiborne Hunsaker IV, was born in 1970. She served the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1970–1981 before moving to Washington, D.C., to work for the Health Care Financing Administration. She later practiced law in Cincinnati and returned to Lexington in 2000, retiring from the State of Kentucky in 2013. In 2020, she moved to the Palm Springs area to be close to her son. A lifelong Kentucky Wildcats fan, Ann treasured her friends, the Bluegrass landscape, and the many Labrador retrievers-and one special cat-who shared her home.

Ann is survived by her son, John; her former husband, John Hunsaker III; her brother Jerry Truitt and his wife Sue Anne; and her nephews Jeffrey and Gentry Truitt, as well as extended members of the Hunsaker family. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack Pastal and Cleo Davis Truitt, and by John Claiborne Hunsaker Jr., Mary Bryson Hunsaker, Frank Hunsaker, and Barbara Turkovich. She is also remembered with love by Tanya, daughter of Frank and Barbara. A celebration of her life will be held in Lexington in spring 2026. Donations may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society in her memory.
