Stella Tomanovich, age 100, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 18, 2025, in Des Plaines, IL. She was born on November 25, 1924, in Suchowola, Poland. Stella was the beloved wife of the late Dobry and a loving mother to Milan, Olga (Richard) Collier, George (Emily), and Alex (Deanne). She was a cherished grandmother to Michael, Leah, Joseph, Zach (Christy), Adam, and Noah, and a proud great-grandmother to John and Colin. Stella was preceded in death by her brother and three sisters in Poland, and she leaves behind many nieces and nephews there.
A long-time member of Old Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, Stella lived in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago for many years. She deeply cared for her neighbors and their families, especially the children. In return, her neighbors generously looked after her in later in life. All were welcome in her home, where she was always ready to offer a drink in your glass and a meal on your plate. Stella had a fondness for animals, and her home became a favorite stop for neighborhood pets. Over the years, she cared for many shelter animals.
Stella will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Old Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, located at 3062 W. Palmer Square, Chicago, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the Opelo (Funeral Service) at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Montrose Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Muzyka & Son Funeral Home.
