Stephanie Mathis-Shea Obituary

Stephanie Ann Mathis-Shea (32) passed away in her sleep at her home in New Orleans, LA on Thursday, February 16, 2023. She was born in Gainesville, FL on October 13, 1990 to Darrel and Mary Kay Mathis. She was a member of the CHS Class of 2009. Stephanie was active as a member of the LCMS & CHS Dance Teams, CHS Swimming, Interact, and the Rotary Youth Exchange traveling to Germany. She also had thirteen years of perfect attendance.
Stephanie graduated from the University of West Florida in Pensacola in 2013, with a bachelor of science degree in Environmental Science with honors. While there, she found her love for scuba diving and enjoyed diving in the Gulf and in the Keys. She also started working in property management and hospitality. Upon graduation, she was offered and accepted the position of manager of the Lee House Inn in the historic Seville District. There she followed in her father's footsteps and became a member of the Rotary Club of Pensacola Seville, being named the Ron Richards Rotarian of the Year for 2018.
In 2019, Stephanie moved to Nashville and continued her career in hospitality management at the Hermitage Hotel and then The Joseph. In early 2022, she was recruited by the Maison de la Luz of New Orleans and moved there in February. Just prior to her passing, Stephanie had begun working with the Wyndam Hotel chain.
No matter where she lived or what role she took on, Stephanie put her heart and soul into everything she did. Her love of animals was second to none. She was the first to respond to a loved one or friend in their moment of need and always carried a sense of adventure with her during her short time here on earth.
Stephanie is survived by her parents, husband, Jack, sisters Katherine (Jack) Ingram of Tampa and Danielle Mathis of Orlando, brother Matthew of Lake City, her Mema Sally Clemens of Atlantic Beach, her Meme Pat Mathis of Hilliard, and niece, Emery Ingram, along with aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves behind her beloved pets; Buddy, Rosie, Thelma, and Louise. She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Papa Gene Clemens and Papa Tom Mathis, and uncles, Mark and Mike Clemens.
A memorial service will be held at Parkview Baptist Church on Saturday, March 4th, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Tatem officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake City Humane Society (www.lakecityhumane.org), Save the Manatee Club (www.savethemanatee.org), or your local animal shelter.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119. Please sign the guest book at www.jacobschoenandson.com.
