Stephanie Day O’Connell

Stephanie Day O'Connell was born on March 15,1936 in San Mateo, California. She passed away on March 18, 2026, shortly after a fall. She was a long time resident of Alameda, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole C. Attleweed and Mary G. Attleweed as well as her in-laws, Louie O'Connell and Alice J. O'Connell. She is survived by her husband, Louie W. O'Connell, daughters Gail (Torg) Sahlman, Susan (Robert) Gaspar, grandchildren, Cody Schultz, Sara (Nicholas) Mensink and Eric Sahlman as well as great grandson, Easton Mensink.

Stephanie was baptized at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in El Cerrito, CA. She graduated from Willow Glen High School in San Jose, CA in 1953. She worked in the office at Pacific Bell when she was set up on a blind date with Louie O'Connell who was a Telephone Lineman. The rest is history as they would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary in May.

Stephanie or "Stevie" as we affectionately called her, was a homemaker who enjoyed crafting, camping, sewing and was an excellent cook. She took pride in being a block Mom on Bay Farm Island. Stevie later worked for the Alameda Unified School District at Lincoln Middle School as a Secretary, where she looked forward to seeing the children who attended and all of the activities throughout the school year. Stevie was blessed to have been married to a wonderful man, had a beautiful family and was able to go on many adventures. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her positivity and grace were unmatched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 11, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1323 Central Avenue, Alameda, CA with sweets and refreshments to follow.

Donations may be made in Stevie's name, to Trinity Lutheran Church to go towards their music and education funds.
