Stephanie Wallace Obituary
Stephanie Elizabeth Wallace, 40, most recently of Willimantic but previously of New York City, Chapel Hill, NC, and Knoxville, TN, among others, died February 15 after four years of failing health that began with a COVID-19 infection in February 2020.
Stephanie attended East Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, NC, later acquiring her GED. She had many interests, and she taught herself to become an expert in several fields. She was a chocolatier, sommelier, chef, baker, music producer, software technician, web programmer, and web designer. In the latter three capacities she worked for many years for Chambers Street Wines in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood.
Stephanie was infinitely curious, and she never hesitated to dive into what interested her. She cared deeply about her family and friends, and many people turned to her for advice, comfort, information, tech support, and more. She was highly independent and thought deeply about how she wanted to live and interact with the world. She loved wordplay, making jokes, puns, Star Trek, video gaming, cats, friends, coffee, music, wine and spirits, learning new things, and having great conversations late into the night over good bottles of wine. She was unafraid to tackle some of the most difficult recipes, from kouign amman to beet ice cream to dacquoise. She lived her life on her own terms, and we all had something to learn from her.
Stephanie is survived by her father and stepmother, Jon Wallace and Anne Langley of Mansfield Center; mother, Jean Marie Giaquinto; half-sister Carolina Curvo; half-brothers Henry and Michael Artin; grandmother Janet Wallace; grandfather Robin A. Wallace; step-grandmother Kelly Selman; aunt Christine Giaquinto; aunt and uncle Meg and Robin E. Wallace; and a number of cousins and step-relatives, as well as her beloved cat Cardamom.
A celebration of life will be held April 13 in Carrboro, NC; details to come. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Stephanie's memory may be made to Trans Lifeline, https://give.translifeline.org/team/564730.
