Stephen Joel Bloom (Steve), 81, of Wynnewood, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 12, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Philadelphia on September 14, 1942, to Ruth and Matty Bloom, Stephen was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class 214. He earned his Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University, as well as passing his Actuarial exam. Steve worked as an engineer from the earliest days of the computer age spending much of his career as an aerospace engineer, most recently for Lockheed Martin.

Beyond his professional achievements, Steve was known for a love of bridge, as an avid player and life master as well as a respected director and teacher. He was a masterful piano player and brought joy to so many with his music. Steve had a brilliant analytical mind and great dry sense of humor.

Stephen is survived by his son, Jonathan (Jodi), grandsons Sammy and Charlie, sister Sandee, and brother Elliot (Rita) and his loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 24 years, Sheila Shapiro Bloom.

Funeral services will be held graveside at Har Zion Cemetery, Section R (1201 MacDade Blvd, Darby, PA 19023) on March 15 at 12 PM.

Shiva will be observed at the residence of Jon and Jodi Bloom following the service and on Sunday, March 17.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or the Susan G. Komen Foundation (komen.org), or a charity of your choice.

Steve’s kindness, intellect, humor, and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him.  May his memory be a blessing.
