Stephen Bridwell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes - Serenity Gardens Chapel on Dec. 8, 2025.
Stephen Michael Bridwell, 68, of Dover, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, in Lakeland, Florida, following a courageous battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Born on June 23, 1957, in Tampa, Florida, Stephen was raised by his mother, alongside his three brothers and sister. His upbringing shaped a fearless resourcefulness and strong work ethic that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1975 and went on to dedicate more than 30 years to the United States Postal Service.

An avid outdoorsman, Stephen found joy in hunting, hiking, and fishing. He was also a passionate baseball fan and was affectionately known as "Coach Steve" for his decades-long commitment to coaching in Tampa's Little League associations. His enthusiasm, mentorship, and love for the game left a lasting impact on countless young players.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melody Bridwell; his son, Stephen Bridwell II (Kendyl); his stepson, Robert Bailey (Jennifer); and his stepdaughter, Christine Bailey. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Leffie Lowe (Dakota), Lauren Bailey, Alex Bailey, Rickie Bridwell, and Stephen Bridwell III; his great-grandchildren, Athena Lowe, Cloa Lowe, and Helena Lowe; his sister, Linda Bever; his brothers, Joe Bridwell (Melanie) and Butch Schwindt (Monica); and his sister-in-law, Lynn Bridwell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susie Schwindt, his brother, Paul Bridwell, and his great-granddaughter, Hailey Lowe.

A celebration of Stephen's life will be held in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Stephen will be remembered as a devoted family man whose legacy of love, perseverance, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
