Stephen Clendenin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel - Bowling Green on Mar. 3, 2026.
Stephen Kenneth Clendenin, 72, of Bowling Green, KY passed at his residence on Monday, March 2, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Topeka, KS to the late Kenneth Earl and Bonnie Louise Clendenin.

Being a part of a military family, Steve's childhood was filled with traveling and new locations. He lived in Texas before moving to Belleville, Illinois where he settled down and spent most of his adulthood. While in Illinois, he met his beloved wife, Donna. They got married on May 21, 2008 on a beach in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. Traveling, the beach and going on cruises together was something they both enjoyed.

Steve had two wonderful children whom he cared for dearly; Natalie and Brek. They both are thankful for all the times that their father made such an effort to visit and spend time with them, no matter the distance. Steve loved to call and talk to his children and grandchildren on the phone. Natalie and Steve would call every Tuesday and talk about what's for dinner, and of course, it was always Taco Tuesday. Steve taught them how to fish and swim on their summer trips to the Ozark Lakes. Building, playing ball and painting was also something they loved doing together. They both remember their dad as a hardworking and devoted father who always made time for them and their family. His children were his whole heart and whether it was a neighborhood over or thousands of miles apart, he was a part of their life in every way possible.

Steve owned and operated a painting business for over 40 years in Illinois. In 2020, he and Donna moved to Bowling Green KY where he continued to run his business. Shortly after his move, he retired and has spent the last couple years enjoying time with his family and dogs. Steve spent his free time piddling in the garage, taking care of his yard, talking to his children, taking trips to the lake with his family, cooking for friends and neighbors, and spending time with his beloved dogs. Steve attended Hillvue Heights Church in Bowling Green, KY.

Whether it be cooking up a meal or lending a helping hand, Steve always was there and known for putting others first. His one true love was caring for and spending time with Donna.

He is survived by his wife Donna Jean Clendenin (Dodd), two children; Brek Clendenin (Kathy) and Natalie Clendenin McManus (Matthew), step children; Daniel Spicer and Jonathan Spicer, sisters; Stephanie Hardin (Neal), Kendra Jones (David) and Pamela Bosemer (the late Martin), brother; Jeff Clendenin (Lynn), grandchildren; Stephen Kell, Chloe, Cole, Morgan, Gavin and Maureen, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Steve also had a special place in his heart for his longtime friends; Manny and his children, as well as Shane (Paula) and his beloved dogs; Chase and Jack.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother; Gregory Clendenin and his dog whom he cherished dearly; Teddy.

The family will accept visitors on Friday, March 6th from 11AM-2PM with a service at 2PM, both at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Internment in Bowling Green Gardens will follow the service.

Services have been entrusted into J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
