Carol Clendenin, age 87, of
Marion, IL, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at her home.
She was born on December 25, 1938 in Bessville, MO, to William and Bessie (Davenport) Shrum.
She married Cecil L. Clendenin on January 14, 1956 in Plainview Church in Marble Hill, MO and together they shared over 70 years of marriage.
Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful pastor's wife and she and her husband founded LaMaster Pentecostal Church in rural Marion in 1972. As evangelists, they ministered together in Marion and in other churches across the country for over fifty years. Second only to the Lord, Carol loved her family beyond words and treasured the many wonderful memories created with them.
She is survived by her husband Rev. Cecil L. Clendenin of Marion; sons, Garry Clendenin of Johnston City, IL, and Pastor Chris (Rhoda) Clendenin of Marion; daughter, Becky Clendenin of Marion; daughter-in-law, Lea Ann Clendenin of Marion; twelve grandchildren, David (Paige) Clendenin, Danny (Francesca) Clendenin, Nathan Clendenin, Christy (Trey) Lewis, Amber Joy Clendenin, Kendell Clendenin, Kayla Clendenin, Jason Clendenin, Chris Clendenin, Faith Clendenin, Caleb Clendenin and Gabriel Clendenin; seven great-grandchildren, Edan Clendenin, Jazmine Clendenin, Brooklyn Clendenin, Missy Clendenin, Lexi Clendenin, Keller Clendenin and Titus Lewis; two great-great-grandchildren, Kyler and Amirah; brothers, William L. "Bill" (Patricia) Shrum of San Jose, CA and Joe Shrum of Houston, TX; sister, Terry (Jim) Theissen of Colorado Springs, CO; and several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Paul Clendenin and Ricky Clendenin; two daughters-in-law, Rachel Clendenin and Janice Clendenin; two granddaughters, Crystal Lynn Clendenin, and April Michelle Clendenin; and four sisters, Adele Long, Helen Cook, Betty Mayfield and Vivian Alean Shrum in infancy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street,
Marion, IL.
The visitation will be at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will resume on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Following the time of visitation on Thursday, the funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with her son, Pastor Chris Clendenin presiding.
Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in
Marion, IL.
