Stephen Cluett Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 13, 2026.
Cluett, Stephen M., retired United States Merchant Marine Captain, 61, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026.

Born and raised in Gloucester, MA, he was the son of the late Stephen O. and Kathryn (Iggie) Cluett. After spending his childhood growing up on Rocky Neck, he went on to attended Tabor Academy in Marion, MA and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. After his schooling he returned to Gloucester for a bit and then made Rhode Island home for over 30 years, while his love of all things boats took him all over the world working in many different capacities from on shore customs paperwork to off shore tug boats including working for Don Jon Marine for over 20 years. When not a sea he kept busy with his own construction company, Bay View Builders, specializing in decks and replacing windows.

He will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor (you might have missed it). His love of dogs, SUNSHINE, neck scratches, building his model tug boat, and hockey! Including being a season ticket holder to the Providence Bruins for many years and following them up through the ranks. And most recently watching both the women and men's teams win GOLD for Team USA!

Stephen is survived by his immediate family, Mary-Kathryn (Cluett) and Jeff Gray, a nephew, Jeff Cluett and dear family friend J. Mark Olsen and his favorite puppies Bean, Angle and LillyBelle as well as previous shipmates and friends from far and wide. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tabor Academy, Attn. Tabor Boy, 66 Spring Street, Marion, MA 02738.

A springtime celebration of life will be announced in the coming weeks. For more information and to send online condolences, please visit www.campbellfuneral.com
