Stephen Colas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stone Brothers Funeral Home - Fort Pierce on Mar. 13, 2026.
Stephen Colas began his life's journey on Saturday, January 7, 1927, in Jacmel, Haiti. He was born to the late Seplimice Colas and Marcelia Ambroise. As a young man, Stephen developed and mastered the skill of shoemaking. Through dedication and hard work, he later opened his own shoe store, serving his community with pride.

In 1985, Stephen courageously migrated from Haiti to New York in search of new opportunities. He lived and worked there for five years before eventually settling in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he spent the remainder of his years.

Stephen was known for his calm and gentle demeanor. He moved through life at his own unhurried pace, often walking with his arms crossed behind his back as if time itself held no urgency. He deeply valued community and enjoyed being around the people of La Gonâve, whom he loved dearly. His connection with them was so strong that many often mistook him for a native Gonavien.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Seplimice Colas; his mother, Marcelia Ambroise; and his son, Jean Colas.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved stepdaughter, Micheline Roy, and stepson, Max Pillet, Friend Yvon Bureau, Emanuel Bureau, Falenda Bureau, Nicole Bonheur, Nazarene Church family, along with extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his presence.

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, Stephen peacefully took his final breath as the Lord, in His wisdom, called him home to eternal rest.
