Stephen Daugherty Obituary

Daugherty, Stephen Christopher

- November 8, 2023

Stephen Christopher Daugherty, 65, of Tulsa passed away on Nov 8, following an unexpected illness. He was born in Greenville, TX to Christopher Daugherty and Nancy Spears Daugherty and brought up in Lavon and Garland, TX. Steve graduated from South Garland High School ('78), Baylor University ('81) and the Tulsa University of Law ('93). His career was in the energy business, most recently serving as SVP at BOK Financial.

He is survived by his three sons Grant, Will, and Blake, as well as their mother Lori; by his wife Tara Daugherty and her son Isaac Risk; his mother Nancy Worden; and siblings Jill Tillinghast, Keith Daugherty, and Cole Daugherty. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Steve led an active and vivacious lifestyle. He ran and cycled through the Tulsa neighborhoods. He loved to fly-fish and hike, often doing so from his second-home and cherished town of Red River, NM. He was worldly and well-traveled, taking trips with his family to places around the world. He was a supportive husband and loving father and was always there for his sons and stepson. He was a dog lover, a fantastic cook, and a dear and passionate friend to many. But the most important and unique quality of Steve, which was woven through his work and interests, was his zest and passion for life. His ability to enjoy the present moment, connect with anyone over anything, and find humor in the small things was truly a gift - a gift that touched the lives of all who knew him.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church at 10 AM, Monday, Nov 13. In honor of Steve's memory, please refrain from bringing gifts and flowers; instead spend this money on your family, friends, communities, or The Gathering Place which was a favorite spot for Steve.

I had the pleasure of working with and speaking with Steve on numerous occasions while he was helping his mother, Nancy, in Dallas. We are in absolute shock, but trust that he is joyous in the arms of Christ. We are praying for you!

I only knew Steve for a week in Italy a few months ago. In that short time, we became fast friends. I will cherish the day that he and I spent in Toffia where he was twisting the idea of buying a cheap apartment. What a dynamic individual. I've attached some pictures: he made friends with the brits; he floated amongst the structures of the ages; oooo, those pants! Again, I only knew him for a week, but I truly understand your loss.

In my mind I am picturing him in an Italian village, up on a hill, searching for the perfect Gelato and taking it all in...

I enjoyed our time when you were part of Tulsa Rowing Club. We were both in ICU at same time but I couldn't visit. Thoughts are with Tara and the rest of the family.
