Stephen J. Doerfler

Stephen (Steve) Joseph Doerfler, affectionately known as "Old Man Doerfler," bid the world farewell on March 6, 2025, just after celebrating his 81st birthday. Born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin, Steve spent his life weaving stories, embracing adventures, and charming everyone who crossed his path. A real estate appraiser by trade, he knew the ins and outs of Appleton better than most and even enjoyed a brief stint as a local cab driver.
Steve was a member of the local Yacht Club, an avid boater who found his peace upon the water. Off the water, he was just as well-known, enjoying the camaraderie and warmth of the Appleton bar scene, where his laugh was contagious, and his stories were legendary. Those who knew Steve can attest to his charming personality, he was likeable and easy-going, always a natural-born storyteller captivating his audience.
His spirit will live on through his daughters, Jodi Lemmers, Jennifer Weinberg, and Mellisa Glasheen, his sister, Lynn Kim, and his friend, Bonny Sorenson. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Doris Doerfler. In keeping with his wishes, a private burial will be held.
As we say farewell to Steve, we hope he will enjoy being laid to rest near his beloved grandmother, Winifred Waltman, at the Historic Riverside Cemetery in Appleton, and basking forever in the Warm Summer Sun:
